EXCITING START FOR 2010
Welcome back to another exciting season of rugby. For those new to our club, we were established in 1872 and are the oldest country club in Australia, the oldest club in the ACTRU and the fourth oldest club in all of Australia. More details can be found in the history section to the left and will be updated as we uncover more of our colourful past. In more recent history, we have just won the last three premierships in a row.
This season, the ACTRU has changed the structure of our competition - merging third and fourth grade teams from the premier division in with the primarily rural teams of the "Monaro Competition" and it promises to be an exciting new year as a result. Also this year, new first grade coach Justin "Ricky Bobby" Benn takes the reins soit will be something of a new start for the club as well as the competition as a whole.
Goulburn Rugby Union FC offers rugby in four age related divisions:
- FIZZY REDS (primary school aged local competition)
- TABLELANDS REDS (secondary school aged teams in the ACT junior competitions)
- DIRTY REDS (our senior teams that compete in the ACTRU first division)
- FERMENTED REDS (our over 35 "golden oldies", preparing to play in the Golden Oldies World Cup later this year).
We invite rugby fans who aren't already involved, or those who have lost touch, to feel free to attend our matches, away or at "Fortress Poidevin" - Poidevin Oval at Goulburn Rugby Park. If you want to play, help out behind the scenes or even sponsor the club, contact one of our committee members (contact details available to the left) and we'll be happy to welcome you to the family.
We are also conducting a membership drive this season with Members Draws after home games and an auction for the coveted Top 15 membership numbers planned for round 6. membership forms can be found in our Resources section.
Sponsors - please check your details in the sponsors section to the left, and email Chris Gordon your details, logos or weblinks if they need updating or correction, so we can guide our loyal supporters to your businesses.
Thanks for checking in on us, and enjoy your rugby this year.

We are especially after help from anyone who'd like to help out in the canteen on a regular basis (and we only have eightb home games, so it's not too daunting a job). Email Klemmy, Liz or Gordo if you are interested in any of the following roles yet to be filled:
Canteen Co-ordinator
Canteen Assistants
Fund-raising Co-ordinator
Patron & Life Member
Also at the AGM, the club honoured two of its members for their service to the club. Former Goulburn solicitor and now Magistrate Brian Lulham was proposed for Life membership and voted in to that august body. Brian was a prominent member of the club through the 70s and 80s (maybe the 60s too but I didn't want to be impolite and ask) and also refereed Monaro matches well into the 90s when he left Goulburn. He played a major role in the establishment of the licensed Rugby Club that was in Market Street and was a Life member of it. Well done "Rocky" and welcome to the Life Members.
The other honoree is no stranger to any rugby fan in the world, Goulburn's most famous blood-nut Simon Poidevin is now the club's first official Patron. While he only played one senior year with the club (a grand final winning year at that) after playing in the juniors, he has also donated much of his time, effort and money to the club in the years since he left for his sensational international career, and to this day opens many doors for us with helpful contacts. He has always been a great patron of the club and it seemed only fitting to bestow upon him the official title. See all you Ranga's out there, it's not all freckles and sun burn, there are some good things in store for you yet.
